Bulletproof Scoops Silver and Bronze at the DBA Design Effectiveness Awards 2018

Last Thursday, myself and a small team of Bulletproofers headed off to The Brewery to attend the DBA Design Effectiveness Awards 2018 ceremony.  Now in their 29th year, these awards are the most prestigious in the industry, aiming to recognise, communicate and reward the role that design effectiveness plays in commercial success.

The judging process is rigorous, as the selected cases studies go through two rounds of judging, by a panel made up of design and marketing heads from leading brands and organisations. So winning an award is no mean feat!

Shortlisted for two awards – one for Bassetts Vitamins and the other for PizzaExpress – it was a great opportunity for us to catch up with our clients away from work and celebrate true commercial success with them. A glass or two later of bubbles and we were all asked to take our seats.

Deborah Dawton, the CEO of the DBA delivered the opening speech, talking about the power of commercially creative design and how companies are increasingly recognising just how transformational it can be for businesses. After a delicious meal, our ceremony host Samira Ahmed was introduced and the ceremony began.

Bassetts Vitamins was shortlisted in the first category of judging themes, ‘Design driving growth in global businesses’. And we’re proud to say that it won Silver! With a sales increase of 17% (£1.47m), Bassetts Vitamins is growing faster than the market selling over five packets every minute, so we were thrilled that the judges recognised this level of success.

Next for us it was PizzaExpress, which was judged in the ‘Design as the critical enabler for competitive advantage’ round. And we’re thrilled to say it won Bronze! In just 12 weeks after the relaunch, the PizzaExpress ‘At Home’ range enjoyed 15% value and 17% volume growth. That equates to 1.15 million more pizzas sold, which brought £2.79 million additional revenue. So a well deserved win!

To get shortlisted is such an achievement (only 54 entries made the cut this year) and requires dedication and commitment from both the agency and client. So I just want to say a massive thank you to our wonderful clients, Skye Lucas-Banks from Bassetts Vitamins and Richard Mills from PizzaExpress, for helping me to get these over the line.

And congratulations to all of the other deserved DBA Design Effectiveness Awards 2018 winners too.
