Bulletproof Macmillan Coffee Morning 2017!

Ready, steady… BAKE!

Sometimes it’s okay to eat cake for breakfast…if it’s for charity that is! Every year we host a Bulletproof Bake-off in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support as part of their national coffee morning fundraiser. It’s always a highly anticipated event in the social calendar for amateur bakers looking to take on a challenge and whip up a masterpiece and bring their bakes to the table in a competition to be the best.

At 9am cakes, pastries and pies of all shapes and sizes that have survived the morning commute (some better than others!) are presented at the bar for judging.

From family recipes passed on through generations to trend-setting modern bakes, the Bulletproof tribe really pulled it out of the bag, all in a bid to win the title of Star Baker and raise money for charity.

In this year’s twist, we had our highly esteemed judges choose their favourite. Jonny, Gush and Nick had the challenge of tasting EVERY cake to decide the winner! And that was no easy feat but they certainly rose to the challenge…

Our sweet spread boasted a couple of Bulletproof branded treats – a surefire way to the judges’ hearts.

Of course it wasn’t just up to the judges, with everyone getting stuck and deliberating their favourites too…

The Outsider prize was awarded to Jamie for his maple and bacon cake topped with candied bacon (pictured below). This unusual flavour combination wowed the crowds!

However, there can only be one overall winner… and this year’s Star Baker is Dee with her pistachio and green tea sponge with fresh fruit and meringue! YUM! Some serious skill went into this cake which could have been mistaken for something made by a contestant of the Great British Bake-Off. Such hidden talent definitely deserves a prize! This year, as well as being crowned Star Baker, Dee won an afternoon tea for two at The Savoy.

Who knew you could have so much fun eating sweet treats for breakfast and helping a great charity at the same time. The pennies are still rolling in and our Just Giving online fundraising page is open for donations. We’ll be announcing our total via social media at the end of the day! Watch this space…
