Why our Quorn redesign was so successful at the 2019 Design Effectiveness Awards.

It’s been an exciting week at Bulletproof: we’ve only gone and won our first gold at the DBA Design Effectiveness Awards!

Why is that good? Well, it’s one of the most sought-after awards in the industry, celebrating the power of design as a driver of business success. There’s also a rigorous three-stage judging process by a panel of prestigious clients across multiple industries, including GlaxoSmithKline, Diageo and Philips, so getting an award is no mean feat.

We won gold with our design for meat-free brand Quorn. When Quorn first briefed Bulletproof, the brand was struggling to reap the rewards of a surge in those following vegan, vegetarian or flexitarian diets. Perceived as dated, Quorn was being held back.

Since the redesign in 2017, the brand has grown by £52.5 million with sales growth up 14% and an additional 2 million consumers trying Quorn for the first time. The increased demand has led to the company hiring 100 new employees and investing £150 million in new production capacity.

Quorn UK’s new look has been so successful, it’s been adopted globally into all 20 of the brand’s markets and has assisted in the launch of the brand into Asia. Most importantly, Quorn is now the biggest vegetarian brand in the world.

Interviewed on stage, Sam Blunt, Global Operations Director at Quorn Foods had these kind words to say:

“The difficult brief we gave Bulletproof was to broaden the appeal of the brand, enticing a new wave of consumers – those choosing to reduce their meat consumption. The redesign has been rolled out across 20 countries worldwide, and Quorn is now the biggest meat-free brand in the world. So, needless to say, we’re very pleased with the work Bulletproof has done!”

With just 8 golds awarded out of a total of 61 awards, it was an honour to take home one of the top prizes for Quorn. Of course, we couldn’t have done it without our client’s help, so we’d like to say a massive thank you to Sam Blunt for his support.
